Experienced Suppression and Kitchen Hood Technician
Position Summary
A Suppression and Kitchen Hood Technician is responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing fire suppression systems and kitchen hood exhaust systems in commercial kitchens in Minnesota. The role ensures compliance with safety regulations and industry standards, providing reliable fire protection services to clients.
Hourly Rate: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Maintenance
- Install kitchen hood and fire suppression systems according to manufacturer specifications and local codes.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of systems to ensure they operate effectively and comply with regulations.
- Replace or repair defective components, such as nozzles, fusible links, and piping.
- Inspections & Testing
- Perform scheduled inspections of suppression systems and hood ventilation equipment.
- Conduct functionality tests, including fire suppression discharge tests, to ensure proper operation.
- Document inspection results and provide reports to clients.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all work complies with local fire codes, NFPA standards, and OSHA safety guidelines.
- Identify and rectify non-compliance issues during inspections.
- Customer Service
- Interact professionally with clients to explain inspection results and necessary repairs.
- Provide recommendations for system upgrades or replacements when necessary.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in kitchen hood and suppression systems.
- Perform emergency repairs to restore functionality and safety.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of services performed, including inspection reports, repair logs, and client communication.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification preferred.
- Experience in fire suppression system installation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of NFPA 96, NFPA 17A, and other relevant fire codes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Capable of standing, bending, and working for extended periods.
Certifications (Preferred)
- NICET Certification (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies).
- Fire suppression system certification (state-specific).
- OSHA 10, 17, 17A, 96,1 and 99 fire codes and building codes or OSHA 30 certification.
